Learning Kitesurfing

Flying with a kite may sound like a sheer indulgence in today's fast paced world, but the tantalizing thought of spending a relaxing evening maneuvering a pretty little kite with a long string can be very enticing for many! Undoubtedly, kite flying is one of the most relaxing and pleasurable ways to spend a breezy afternoon! The cumulative creativity of mankind soon turned this into a new and extreme sport. Kitesurfing is a new extreme sport that uses the propelling forces of the kite and the magic of the surfboard the ride the waves in a totally different fashion - kite surfing!

Kitesurfing is a new form of popular activity that is taking the world extreme sports by storm. This is a great way to add vigor and excitement to an otherwise boring schedule. Here, the propelling powers of the kite are used to pull the surfboard.

Kite flying is fun, but combining it with another makes it fantastic! In fact, back in the 1800's, the Chinese has been using kites to propel carts and ships across unknown territories of the wide open seas. The kite is a cheap substitute to replace horse power due to the rising taxes placed upon the use of horses.

In the 70's Kevlar and Spectra flying kites were made, making them more controllable and efficient with more kite traction. Snow skis, roller skates, canoes ice skates and water skis utilized the propelling power of the kite back in the 1980's. The world's first inflatable kite was then invented in 1984. Since then, it has used by many companies to make their own products and in 1997 the ?Wipika? kite design was developed and sold.

It comes with a bridle system and inflatable tubes which helps it to be re-launched in the water. The kite-board was introduced and moved this form of sport into the mainstream. It is a mere ten years ago when the first kitesurfing competition tool place in the Island of Maui.

This pastime can be learned through kitesurfing schools which provide courses and lessons to teach students all the skill they need for this exciting recreation. One needs to know the right way to launch kites, to keep it flying and how to manage the lines. This equipment can be easily misunderstood so it is good to learn from a certified instructor.

The student who wishes to learn kitesurfing must master the art of body dragging. Body drag involves an upward lift instead of the forward move as in surfing. Apart from the standard equipment you may need to buy a life vest, gloves, booties, hood, wet suit and different kites for varying conditions which when totaled up can cost anything up to 3,000 dollars.

Kitesurfing can be dangerous so it is restricted to some locations for safety reasons. This is not a concern though as there are many places you can go to kitesurf. It is always preferable to avoid accidents so make sure you follow safety guidelines and go properly equipped.
