How to Learn to Wakeboard

One great sport that is packed with tons of excitement and wonderful thrills is wakeboarding. It is a very fast paced sport that is growing in popularity. Some consider it a tough sport to learn and may become intimidated, but following a few easy guidelines in the following article, you can be well on your way to wakeboarding like a pro with as little as one hour of practice.

First things first: one of the most important things to remember while wakeboarding is the proper position. You should be lying on your back with your feet and the rest of the board facing the boat. The board should be perpendicular and make a aTa shape with the tow rope. Lastly, making sure that your knees are bent properly and somewhat springy; you should rest the rope in your hands over the middle of the wake board and be sure you are headed toward the boat.

The boat will begin accelerating, and slowly you will lean back. You do not want to make the common mistake of trying to stand up while the boat is still gaining speed. This is often one of the things that give trouble to beginners. As you are accelerating the forward movement should pull you up slowly to an upright position.

With a little perseverance, you can learn this next part, more difficult than anything else so far. You will need to shift your dominant foot towards the front of the wakeboard. This can be done after you are in the upright standing position. This will allow you to steer the wakeboard much like you would a skateboard, and using a slow, smooth back and forth motion you can direct your movement with this foot.

After you have achieved the standing position and have your lead foot forward, it may take a few tries to really get comfortable while wake boarding. You want to move fluidly with the waves and cadence of the ocean. Also, to avoid any nasty face plants into the water, make sure that you keep the tow handle at the side of your hip that is facing the boat.

One you begin to get moving, make sure you alternate putting weight one either your heels or toes, as this will cause you to move in the respective direction that you need to move in. Once you get this down a few times, you should easily be able to go in and out the wake a few times.

One great way to increase your wakeboarding fun is through wakeboarding towers. A wakeboarding tower is used to give the tow line a higher point of contact with the boat. Using a wakeboarding tower tower in this way allows you to move easier and more freely in the water. These are great ways to enhance your wakeboarding experience.

Following these tips and simple instructions, you can be on your way to hours of enjoyment with a healthy and entertaining activity for yourself and your friends. Wakeboarding's appeal comes from its extreme nature and fast paced movements, which attract anybody with a taste for a little excitement. Hope you put these great tips to use and start wakeboarding in as little as an hour!
